Atascadero was called a "Veritable Paradise" by founder E.G. Lewis in 1913 and continues to hold that appeal today. 

Situated 250 miles north of Los Angeles and 250 miles south of San Francisco, this central coast community boasts many delights for those who call it home. One of the distinguishing characteristics of Atascadero is the preservation of open space, protection of trees and hillsides, and the large lot sizes, creating a desirable rural community. Many areas of Atascadero are heavily wooded and the westside of Atascadero (west of Hwy 101) has fairly steep hillsides offering many incredible views.
